Non-Emergency Medical Transportation
In March 2010, SMOOTH, Inc. was authorized by the State of California
Department of Healthcare Services (DHS) and CenCal Health as a Medi-Cal
Non-Emergency Medical Transportation provider for northern Santa Barbara
and southern San Luis Obispo counties.
Services Provided
• Round trip “curb-to-curb” transportation from eligible member
residences to prescription authorized medical appointments at
participating Medi-Cal facilities / offices.
Service Area
• SMOOTH Non Emergency Medical Transportation is available for
eligible members and medical facilities in select northern Santa Barbara
and southern San Luis Obispo county communities. SMOOTH’s service
destination area is generally within a one hour radius of Santa Maria.
Service Hours/Days
• SMOOTH Non Emergency Medical Transportation is available
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• Rides are scheduled through SMOOTH office staff
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Scheduling Process
• A minimum of two day's notice is required for reservations, and
reservations may be scheduled up to a month in advance.
• Passenger rides can be scheduled by either:
a) An eligible CenCal / Medi-Cal enrolled patient with active Member ID
number and written physician’s prescription for the transportation,
or:
b) An Authorized CenCal Health Member physician, with a written
prescription for transportation.
• The caller will need to have the following information ready for the
SMOOTH Dispatch / Scheduler:
a) Patient’s name, address (street, number, and city), and phone number.
b) Patient’s CenCal Health Member ID number.
c) Physician’s name, address (street, number, and city), and phone number.
d) Provide the physician's written prescription for transportation.
e) Appointment time.
f) Return trip time.
