Transportation for Agricultural Workers
The AgVan program provides safe, reliable, and economical transportation to agricultural
work sites throughout California's Central Coast. The program is funded through a State
Agricultural Worker Transportation Program (AWTP) grant. The County of Santa Barbara
has contracted with SMOOTH to provide the full range of services related to day-to-day
operation and oversight of the program. This includes project administration and data
reporting, driver recruitment, training and orientation, and project marketing and
outreach.
Van pool programs are helping to decrease traffic congestion and help to keep our
roadways safe. For farm owners, the program helps reduce absenteeism and promotes
increased productivity and profitability. For farm workers, van pools are an economical
way to get to and from work. Safety and reliability are ensured by regular vehicle
inspections and stringent program guidelines.
